Job Vacancy - Lead Financial Remedies & Private Law Clerk

Following a period of growth over the previous two years which has seen Chambers grow from 37 members of Chambers to close to 50, we are introducing a new clerking position to play a key role in growing the practices of our Financial Remedies and Private Law Children barristers, pupils and associate members. 

The role will be heavily focus on building and growing new and existing relationships with our professional clients, barristers and clerking team. As well as being responsible for the diary management of the Financial Remedies and Private Law Children barristers, requiring flexibility and a focus on individual practice development for our barristers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the day-to-day diaries of all Financial Remedies and Private Law Children barristers.
  • Working closely with the Senior Clerk and Practice Heads to seek new business development opportunities for Chambers. Includes identifying new work streams and professional clients.
  • Developing and innovating new products and services alongside the Senior Clerk and practice heads. Including the development of Chambers Non-Court Dispute Resolution services and Direct Access opportunities.
  • Regularly conducting client relationship meetings with new and existing professional clients, both independently and alongside the Senior Clerk and individual barristers where appropriate.
  • Conducting regular, ongoing practice development meetings and discussions with individual barristers of all levels of call within Chambers. Working closely with the Senior Clerk to implement practice development plans and supporting the growth and development of individual barristers.
  • Deputising and assisting the Senior Clerk where appropriate in Management Committee meetings and reporting on trends and the financial position of the Financial Remedies and Private Law Children work in Chambers.
  • Negotiating and agreeing private fees, using commercial awareness to remain competitive.
  • Representing Chambers at networking events across the Midlands and nationally when required.
  • Assisting with the oversight and development of Junior Clerks and other staff members.
  • Assisting with the general administration and day to day running of Chambers.

The following experience, knowledge and skills are preferred:

  • A track record of senior leadership, management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of the clerking process, including diary management, fee negotiation and practice development.
  • A track record of developing new business ideas and working as part of a team to deliver results.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience of project management.
  • Experience of leading on building and developing professional relationships with stakeholders.
  • Excellent administration and organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively under pressure.
  • Experience of working in a barristers’ chambers, or other legal environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of the legal services market in relation to Family Law.
  • Experience of supervising, mentoring or developing junior staff members would be advantageous.
  • A proactive, professional and service-focused approach.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Start and finish times may vary but will normally be within 9-00am until 6-00pm Monday to Friday. Out of hours work will be necessary on occasion.
